Safety is no accident, especially when it comes to protecting your valuables during the holidays. Here are some tips that will help you protect what you prize:
Be sure to lock all doors and windows before you leave home.
If you have an alarm system, make sure you turn it on and use it.
Consider installing a security cabinet. Some cabinets, feature a keyed security lock and a tamper-resistant, white-painted steel door. While the cabinets feature a rust-resistant painted steel body, they can be disguised with paint or wallpaper. They’re also easily installed and out of the way, whether in a closet, a laundry room or your home office.
If you plan to be away overnight, use timers on your lighting fixtures and stop your mail and newspaper deliveries.
Ask your neighbor to keep an eye on your home when you are going out of town.
If you see any suspicious activity or individuals in your neighborhood, don’t be afraid to call the police department to check it out.
Consider leaving a radio or television on when going out. The sound will give the impression that someone is home.
